The coffee kit

A roaster selling one kit, with beans that keep arriving.

This is the funnel Cartless seeds with wp cartless demo, and the one running on the live demo. It is small enough to build in ten minutes and exercises most of what the plugin does.

The shape

One product the buyer came for, one thing that obviously belongs with it, and one thing that turns a sale into a customer.

The kit is the product. The beans are the bump: ticked beside the pay button, added as a line to the same order, one charge. The subscription is the upsell, offered after payment on Pro — the buyer accepts it in one click because the card is already saved. Decline it and the downsell offers a single bag instead.

Why the bump copy says what it says

“Normally $18 — and it takes the order past $75, so shipping becomes free.” Two reasons on one line: a price the buyer recognises as a deal, and a threshold that makes the bump pay for itself. The threshold is real — set it under Shipping — and the summary shows shipping drop to free the moment the box is ticked. A promise the checkout keeps in front of the buyer is worth more than one they have to trust.

Tax, quietly

The kit is standard-rated; the beans are food, zero-rated. Cartless taxes each line at its own class and rounds line by line, so adding the beans adds no tax, and the summary says so. Shipping tax follows whichever treatment you chose under Tax — split by value, the kit’s share is taxed and the beans’ is not.

What the merchant sees

After a few orders, Reports shows the kit, the bump and the upsell as separate rows with revenue, cost and margin. The beans usually out-earn the kit per unit of revenue. That is the number that tells you to keep the bump exactly where it is.
