Cartless vs FunnelKit

FunnelKit is a funnel and automation suite for WooCommerce stores, with a checkout, upsells and an automation engine that runs on Woo's data. Cartless is a standalone checkout for selling one product without WooCommerce at all. If you have a Woo store and want automations, FunnelKit is the deeper tool. If you do not want a store, Cartless is the one that does not make you install one.

What each one is

FunnelKit — the plugin formerly called WooFunnels — is a funnel builder and an automation engine for WooCommerce. It replaces the Woo checkout, adds upsells and bumps, and runs email and workflow automations off Woo’s orders and customers. It is a serious tool for a serious Woo store.

Cartless is a checkout for selling one product on WordPress without WooCommerce. It builds the funnel pages, takes the payment through Stripe, offers a bump and — on Pro — a one-click upsell, and reports what each mechanic earned.

Where Cartless is better

No WooCommerce. No shop page, cart, account page or shipping-zone matrix to set up and then hide. A funnel is five pages and a product.

A free, working checkout. The free plugin takes real payments with a bump. FunnelKit’s free plugin builds checkout pages for Woo; the money features are paid.

Margin, not just revenue. Reports shows cost and margin by mechanic from the snapshots on each order line, so a March order keeps March’s cost. It is the number you run a paid-traffic funnel on.

Where FunnelKit is better

  • Automations. FunnelKit's engine sends emails and runs sequences off Woo events — carts, orders, customer tags. Cartless Pro has abandoned-checkout recovery and receipts; it is not an automation platform.
  • It is WooCommerce underneath, so every Woo gateway, shipping carrier and extension works. If you need any of them, you need Woo, and then FunnelKit is the fit.
  • 1,019 reviews at 5 stars on wordpress.org. That is a lot of merchants who found it did what they needed.

Questions

Can I use FunnelKit without WooCommerce?

No. FunnelKit requires WooCommerce; its checkout replaces Woo's and its automations run on Woo's data. Cartless exists for the case where you do not want WooCommerce at all.

Which is cheaper?

At list price FunnelKit's entry tier is $129 a year for one site, on sale at $99.50 when checked. Cartless is free for the checkout and bump and $199 a year for Pro. If you only need a checkout and a bump, Cartless costs nothing.

Which reports margin?

Cartless, in the free plugin: revenue less refunds, cost and margin per mechanic — product, bump, upsell. FunnelKit reports revenue and conversion; margin needs a separate tool.
