Troubleshooting
Cartless tries to say what is wrong in the place you are looking, rather than failing quietly. This page lists the messages you may meet and what each one wants from you.
No Cartless menu after activation
Section titled “No Cartless menu after activation”The plugin needs PHP 7.4 or newer and WordPress 6.5 or newer. Check Tools → Site Health. If the plugin activated but shows a notice about a missing vendor/autoload.php, the zip was incomplete — reinstall it from wordpress.org.
Stripe rejects the key
Section titled “Stripe rejects the key”Paste a restricted key to begin. — it must be a restricted key, which begins with rk_. A secret key (sk_) is refused on purpose. See Stripe and webhooks for the seven permissions the key needs.
Key accepted. Add the “Account: Read” permission if you would like the account name shown here. — not an error. Everything works; Cartless just cannot show which account it is connected to.
Payments are not finished setting up
Section titled “Payments are not finished setting up”The checkout page shows this when the restricted key or the publishable key is missing. Both are needed before a checkout page will render. Finish the checklist under Cartless → Settings.
The webhook is not receiving
Section titled “The webhook is not receiving”Settings shows Nothing received yet until Stripe has sent the first event.
- Stripe cannot reach this address, so no endpoint was registered. — you are on a local or private site. Forward events with the Stripe CLI and paste its signing secret where Settings asks.
- The site address changed. Save your key again to re-register. — the endpoint points at your old address. Paste the key again and Cartless re-registers it.
- Otherwise, take a test payment and look again; the first event arrives with the first payment.
“This block only works on a … step”
Section titled ““This block only works on a … step””The Checkout, Offer or Receipt block is on a page that is not that kind of step. Either move the block to the right page, or open the funnel’s Steps tab and make this page that step.
Cartless: that funnel has no checkout step. — a Buy Button points at a funnel whose checkout step has no page. Assign one on the Steps tab.
This funnel has no product to sell yet
Section titled “This funnel has no product to sell yet”The checkout step has no primary offer. On the funnel’s Offers tab, attach a product to the checkout step.
The payment form could not load
Section titled “The payment form could not load”Stripe’s card form is loaded from js.stripe.com in a frame. A browser extension that blocks third-party frames stops it. Check your connection, pause the extension, and reload.
Apple Pay is not showing
Section titled “Apple Pay is not showing”Apple Pay appears only in Safari, on a device with a card in Wallet, and only once Stripe has verified your domain — in the Stripe dashboard under Settings → Payment methods → Apple Pay, with the verification file served at /.well-known/apple-developer-merchantid-domain-association. Cartless does not do that step for you. Google Pay in Chrome needs no domain step.
That card was declined
Section titled “That card was declined”Stripe declined it and nothing was charged. The buyer’s bank decides this; Cartless only reports it. A test card other than 4242 4242 4242 4242 may be one of Stripe’s deliberate decline cards.
Something went wrong. Your card has not been charged.
Section titled “Something went wrong. Your card has not been charged.”The payment did not complete and no money moved. Try again; if it repeats, check Settings for a webhook or key notice, since the order could not be confirmed.
