Receipts and emails

Pro sends one receipt per order, however many charges the order holds, and one confirmation for each refunded line. It also tells you, on the Settings screen, whether anything is looking after email delivery — because a receipt that vanishes into spam is a support ticket you will never see coming.

Why the free plugin leaves receipts to Stripe

Section titled “Why the free plugin leaves receipts to Stripe”

For a single-charge order Stripe’s own receipt is fine, so the free plugin lets Stripe send it. An order with an upsell is two charges. Stripe would send two receipts for one order, and neither shows the whole thing. Pro’s receipt shows the whole order: Thank you — here is what you bought, every line, and, where there was more than one payment, a note that the bank may show more than one entry.

This is a step you take, not one the plugin can: Stripe’s payment receipts are an account-level setting Cartless can neither read nor change. In the Stripe dashboard, Settings → Customer emails → Successful payments, switch them off. Otherwise a buyer with an upsell gets three emails for one order.

If the thank-you page asked a question the buyer did not answer, the receipt says We still need to know: and links back to answer it. The link works for 14 days.

Refunding a line from the orders screen sends We have refunded $12.00 for House blend 250g with the note that it goes back to the card they paid with, and that banks usually take a few working days to show it. One email per refunded line.

If a buyer changes what they told you — a different grind, a corrected name — after you have started work on the order, Pro emails you: Order #18 changed after you started it, with what it was and what it is now. The free plugin shows the change in the orders list; Pro reaches you where you are, because the case that matters is the one where you are already at the press.

WordPress mail on shared hosting is unreliable, and a missing email is an invisible failure. Cartless recognises the common SMTP plugins — WP Mail SMTP, FluentSMTP, Post SMTP, Easy WP SMTP, SMTP Mailer — and if none is active, Settings says so: Nothing is looking after email delivery. Install one before relying on receipts or recovery.
